Monthly Employee Spotlight with James Wilson

This month, we’re putting the spotlight on James Wilson, our wonderful Workshop Assistant.

If you’ve ever met James Wilson, you’ll know he brings more than just tools to the Rockhampton workshop – he brings energy, curiosity, and a good dose of laughter too. Just over a year into his role as a Workshop Assistant at Coxons, James has already become a standout team member, known for being switched on, easy going, and always ready to get stuck in.

James’ passion for pulling things apart and putting them back together started well before he joined the team. Growing up with a dad working as a diesel fitter in the mines, it’s no surprise he found himself drawn to the world of heavy machinery. “I was working on mountain bikes, motorbikes, even cars,” he says. “In my old car, I pulled the engine out and rebuilt it while I was still in school.” For James, the transition to working on radiators and large-scale equipment at Coxons just made sense, especially after years of squeezing his hands into tight engine bays.

Though he admits he was a bit nervous on his first day, those nerves didn’t last long. “Everyone was super nice,” he says. And while he expected to be on support duties in his role, James quickly found himself trusted with his own jobs. “I thought I’d just be helping the other guys, but I get put on jobs by myself. I’m doing way more than I thought I would be.”

That hands-on experience is one of the things James values most about being part of Coxons. “It’s not all the same thing here. You’re on something new every single day,” he explains. That variety, combined with a supportive team and the chance to keep learning, has made his first year at Coxons a rewarding one.

His advice to anyone thinking about joining the team?

“Just come work for Coxons.”
